Do you know an average person makes the above choice at least10 to 15 times a day?
How easy and how hard can delivering the truth and the lie be?
Was watching Sex and The City again and there was one episode about Carrie modelling for a charity fashion show. She couldn't believe that she looked good though everyone said she looks
"Fabulous!" She was so restless and nervous at the fact that she knew no one in that room would really ever tell her truthfully how ugly or beautiful she is. In the end, one of her best friends reassured her that she did look good, and only then did she feel the confidence and relief building up in her.
Then it got me thinking.. The world can really be cruel and sometimes, it gets even colder when no one bothers to tell you the truth that you either longed or loathed to hear. We like to hear things that pleases us, but sometimes, we just want to hear a realistic answer or at least an honest answer. Though anyone can deliver that truth, yet we decide to be skeptical. We just wouldn't believe it unless
"our person" delivers it.
Noticed how sometimes our minds can classify statements? I do. If I hear it from my family and my best friends, I'd know it's the truth and it can be ugly at times. But if just any friend or even stranger delivers it, I'll somehow feel it's a sweet little lie to make me feel better. It's like selective hearing.
There's a saying that goes,
"It's better to live with one closed eye, rather than two wide opened eys." It's not a hard task listening or even saying little lies, but how much more pretentious do we really want to make ourselves? Maybe we'd feel better living without knowing everything but a collected amount of lies will just amount to a burst of painful honesty.
Like Carrie, I know I wouldn't be able to walk down that runway without knowing an honest and true opinion of how I looked. It's not so much of the truth anymore. It's about who we eventually hear it from.
Because we know, at the end of the day, the ones who will really give us that piece of realistic opnion and that piece of ugly truth, is none other than those who truly loves and cares for us. :)Knowing where and who the truth comes from, helps us to single out the ones that truly loves and means us well and the ones that couldn't be bothered about how we'll make it through our every obstacle in life.
Ironic isn't it?
